In Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, the Dúnedain are a race of people that live in Middle Earth. In this passage, we learn that a group of men and women who lived in the house of Elurin were born into a line of kings and queens called Elured and Elurin. However, after a particular event in their history, they were cursed by Morgoth, the Dark Lord, to be doomed to die in darkness after living for a thousand years. In order to save themselves from death they fled to Middle Earth where they founded Numenor, which became the greatest kingdom of the Elder Days.

As for this passage from The Silmarillion, it tells us that there was a great deed done in these people's past. It is worth noting that the characters were all born on a night when stars glittered in a spray at a waterfall.
